MCALLEN, Texas – Manny Vela is retiring from his post as CEO of Valley Baptist Health System at the end of this month. He has been with the system for 20 years.

In mid-May he will take on a new challenge, COO of Texas A&M University Higher Education Center at McAllen. Details were announced at a recent news conference held at the Center.

The news conference was called by Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp and Texas A&M University President M. Katherine Banks. In addition to announcing Vela’s appointment, Sharp and Banks also discussed planned updates for the Center.

Elected officials, community leaders, faculty and staff were in attendance for the news conference.

The address of the Texas A&M University Higher Education Center at McAllen is 6200 Tres Lagos Blvd., McAllen.
