EDINBURG, Texas - Hidalgo County Commissioners Court has created a video to showcase their new county courthouse.
The opening of the courthouse has been delayed due to technical difficulties. County Judge Richard Cortez said he and his colleagues decided to produce a video of the inside of the building to reassure residents that everything is fine.
“Unfortunately, there are just a lot of rumors going around about the courthouse, that it was sinking and when are we going to finish it and stuff like that,” Cortez told the Rio Grande Guardian International News Service. “So, we thought the appropriate thing to do was to video the inside of the courthouse and let the people see what it's going to look like when we finish it.”
Cortez continued: “You know, we have a huge responsibility that when people go there, it needs to be safe. And before we let anybody go in there and start using it, it needs to be completed and safe for them to use. But we wanted people to know that we are getting very, very close (to opening it).”
Cortez added: “The new courthouse is extremely impressive and I think the citizens of Hidalgo County will be very proud of what they are paying for.”
