MISSION, Texas - Mexico City-based Grupo Century Recycling is to build a new manufacturing plant in Mission, Texas.

The 98,000 square feet, $50 million, metal recycling and materials recovery facility is to be built at 300 Trinity Street in Mission.

The new plant is expected to create an estimated 240 permanent and temporary jobs and millions of dollars in new annual payroll and tax revenue.

The investment was announced at a press conference held at the Center for Education and Economic Development in Mission.

Teclo J. Garcia, CEO of Mission Economic Development Corporation, said the project is expected to create 70 jobs and generate over $8 million in annual payroll, thus marking a major addition to Mission’s industrial growth.

“Grupo Century Recycling is to build a state of the art, highly automated 98,000 square foot facility in Mission. And when fully operational will employ about 70 people including engineers, technicians and others,” Garcia said.

“This $50 million project and investment is a game changer for Mission and the RGV. We are extremely grateful for Century Recycling’ expansion. The FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) will create hundreds  of new jobs and bring a highly automated, tech forward manufacturing plant to the city.”

Garcia said Grupo Century Recycling’s arrival in Mission is part of the EDC’s strategy to “attract innovative, advanced industry to the region.”

He added: “Mission is perfectly positioned at the US-Mexico crossroads - with a young and skilled workforce — to attract these sort of firms.”

Among the speakers at the press conference were Garcia, Mission Mayor Norie Gonzalez Garza, and Mauricio R. Osorio, founder and president of Grupo Century Recycling.

Special guests in attendance at the press conference included: Mission Mayor Pro Tem Ruben Plata, Mission Councilwoman Marissa Gerlach, Mission EDC Board President Richard Hernandez, Gabriela García, co-owner and CEO of Grupo Century Recycling, Guillermo Cantu, president and CEO of TITAN, and Kenny Chainani, president and CEO of AARC Group, LLC.

Osorio said his company expects to break ground on the South Mission facility in January and be operational by end of year.

MEDC’s Garcia added: “This is one of largest single projects ever announced for the City of Mission. The expansive new investment complements recently added industrial projects in Mission such as Bettcher Manufacturing and RODCO Steel.”
