MERCEDES, Texas - Prairie View A&M Extension is partnering with USDA Rural Development to provide outreach and technical assistance on home repair and home loan programs.
The partnership was announced to coincide with Homeownership Month.
The initiative will take place in Edcouch, La Villa, Mercedes, and Mission, where community members will receive information and support to improve their housing conditions.
Rina Castillo, community and economic development agent for Prairie View A&M Extension, said home repair and ownership are essential components of a stable and thriving community.
She said quality home repairs not only enhance the safety and structural integrity of homes but also contribute significantly to the overall quality of life of residents.
By addressing necessary repairs and facilitating access to home loans, Castillo said, Prairie View A&M Extension and USDA Rural Development aim to empower families, ensuring safe and comfortable living environments that promote long-term well-being.
"We are excited to bring these essential resources to our communities," Castillo told the Rio Grande Guardian. "Helping families access home repair and loan programs means investing in their future, fostering stability, and improving the overall quality of life in our rural areas."
