PALMHURST, Texas - Fred Del Barrio, the mayor of Palmhurst, has acknowledged that his city is largely considered a bedroom community.
Althout Palmhurst is incorporated, it does not impose ad valorem taxes. That means funding for new projects, such as a new city hall, can be a challenge, the mayor admits.
However, in an interview with the Rio Grande Guardian, Del Barrio said he would not have it any other way.
“If we tried to impose an ad valorem tax I’d be run out of town,” he said.
In the interview, Del Barrio also dismissed claims that it is difficult to start or expand a business in Palmhurst because the permitting process is bureaucratic. He said Palmhurst is welcoming and open for business.
