Fred Brouwen, director of operations for the Pharr International Bridge, will be retiring after 28 years of outstanding and meritorious service to the City of Pharr.
Fred began his career with the City of Pharr International Bridge on November 16, 1994, as a toll collector and was recognized as the toll collector who collected the first dollar when the bridge opened its doors.
As a result of diligent work and always wanting to learn and demonstrating ability, he advanced to positions of increasing responsibility, first earning appointment as cashier supervisor on October 1, 1999, and then a year later promoted to supervisor on September 23, 2000; then to operations manager on September 29, 2003; then promoted to assistant bridge director on September 27, 2004; and then to director of operations on February 25, 2013.
Fred has set an example of dedication to principles which has been an inspiration to his fellow employees. He, in all his endeavors, has reflected great credit upon the City of Pharr and the International Bridge Department.
The Pharr City Commission do hereby extend to Alfredo Brouwen our sincere and grateful appreciation for his dedicated service to the City of Pharr and the Pharr International Bridge, our congratulations on his well-earned retirement, and our best wishes to him and his family for continued success, happiness, and good health in the years to come.
