EDINBURG, Texas - The fastest growing cities in the Rio Grande Valley over the past four years are Alton, Bayview, La Joya, Rio Hondo, La Villa, Weslaco, Hidalgo, and Edinburg.
All eight of these cities grew by more than eight percent between 2020 and 2024, according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau population estimates.
When comparing cities with a population of over 100,000 Edinburg is 25th in the nation and tenth in the state of Texas for the fastest growth over the past two years. The city’s population rose from 105,956 in 2023 to 108,733 in 2024—an increase of 2.62%.
“Edinburg is a city on the rise,” said Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. “This continued growth reflects the strength of our community and the results of our focused investments in quality of life, infrastructure, and economic opportunity.”
