Recovering from a life-altering injury or illness requires specialized care and a team that is fully dedicated to helping patients regain their independence. At DHR Health’s Rehabilitation Hospital, that commitment is reflected in the recovery journeys of our many patients.

This is why DHR Health is pleased to announce that its Rehabilitation Hospital has been recognized among the country’s “Best Rehabilitation Hospitals” by the U.S. News & World Report for 2026-2027. This recognition places DHR Health’s Rehabilitation Hospital #1 in the Rio Grande Valley and #12 in the State of Texas.

The recognition highlights the importance of comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation and the specialized care that patients receive following life-altering injuries, illnesses, or even major medical procedures.

One notable patient of DHR Health’s Rehabilitation Hospital was Tabatha Sullivent, the victim of a shark attack at South Padre Island in July 2024. She was airlifted from Brownsville to DHR

Health for emergency treatment after sustaining severe injuries that resulted in the loss of most of her calf muscle. She then went on to receive care at DHR Health’s Rehabilitation Hospital where a team of medical professionals worked with her to regain her strength, balance, and the ability to walk again. After making significant progress in her recovery, she was able to walk out of the hospital and return home to North Texas.

The DHR Health Rehabilitation Hospital is a Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF accredited facility), meaning the hospital goes through a voluntary, rigorous accreditation process that involves internal audits, external audits, and on-site visits with a team of outside medical experts that survey whether a facility meets the in-depth and internationally recognized standards.

Every patient at DHR Health’s Rehabilitation Hospital receives care from a highly trained, multidisciplinary team of physicians, therapists including physical, speech, and occupational therapists, nurses and other healthcare professionals who work collaboratively to develop individualized treatment plans and closely monitor each patient’s recovery progress.

DHR Health’s Rehabilitation Hospital is trained to help patients recover from stroke, hip fractures, neurological disorders including Parkinson’s disease, head injuries, amputations (above and below the knee), spinal cord injuries, total knee or hip replacements, major multiple trauma, and patients with other diagnoses are admitted as they meet admission criteria.
