PHARR, Texas – The City of Pharr is winning plaudits across the country for its blazing fast broadband service.
Recently, the city’s IT department picked up a top award from the Smart Cities Council. SCC said TeamPharr.net, the city’s municipal broadband service, is one of the top 50 projects of its kind in the world.
“The Smart Cities Council met in Denver and they told us we are a recipient of their award for having one of the Top 50 projects in the world. It is amazing,” said Jose Peña, director of IT for the City of Pharr.
“Actually, it was great to see that their are two or three other entities in Texas that won awards also. But to have the City of Pharr represented as one of those 50 projects, worldwide, that is incredible.”
But Peña is the first to admit the City of Pharr could not have achieved the success it has without the help of the private sector. Pharr has brought in a number of firms to help with the project.
Here are video interviews with representatives from three of Pharr’s broadband contractors:
Taylor Busse, Extreme Network
Jesse Rodriguez, TelePro Communications
Rolando Martinez & Alan Garzon STX Underground
