PHARR, Texas – RGV Focus is a collective impact initiative created in collaboration with Educate Texas and Communities Foundation of Texas.

Founded in 2012, its mission is to transform college readiness, access and success in the four counties of the Rio Grande Valley. 

RGV Focus recently held its Fall 2022 retreat at the Pharr Development and Research Center. The keynote speaker was Alex Meade, senior Vice President of economic development and public finance act Texas Regional Bank. Opening remarks were made by Dr. Daniel P. King, executive director of Region One Economic Service Center.

Panelists included Sara Lozano and Dr. Joanna File of South Texas College, Pharr City Commissioner Daniel Chavez, Felida Villarreal of VIDA, and Dr. Lance Nail of UT-Rio Grande Valley. Presentations were made by Brownsville, McAllen, and Rio Hondo school districts.

After the retreat, the Rio Grande Guardian International News Service obtained an exclusive video interview with RGV Focus Director Rebeca Lopez. In the interview, Lopez discussed the work of RGV Focus and the purpose of the retreat.
