MCALLEN, Texas – Former McAllen Mayor Jim Darling is longtime chairman of the Rio Grande Regional Water Authority.

The Rio Grande Regional Water Planning Group works with state agencies and local stakeholders to develop and update a Regional Water Plan, which guides the development and stewardship of the region’s water resources.

The Rio Grande Guardian International News Service recently interviewed Darling about the current drought and the dire straits Falcon Dam is in. He gave a recommendation on a measure he thinks Valley cities could adopt but acknowledged that it’s probably going to take a tropical storm to get the reservoirs full.

“If we don’t have significant rain in the next 12 months we will be in bad shape,” Darling said.
