Willis: Concern over tariffs is affecting inward investment

MCALLEN, Texas - Mike Willis, executive director of the South Texas Manufacturers Association, says he is hearing that investment in industrial projects in the region have been put on hold because of uncertainty over tariffs.

“I've been reading that at the national level too, but certainly all the EDCs in this region have told me, as of about six months ago, that there’s been a lot of relocation prospects, or meetings, businesses with prospects, companies that are thinking about expanding or relocating, put (projects) on hold, put on pause for now,” Willis said.

“This is not unusual when you change administrations, but there's a lot of discussion about tariffs and what our trade policy is likely to actually be. And all that those sorts of things dramatically affect where, obviously, where you locate your business.”
