Schwebel: Why IBC Bank pays so much attention to USMCA

MCALLEN, Texas - Gerardo 'Gerry' Schwebel, executive vice president of IBC Bank, spoke about the 2026 USMCA review at an event hosted by the Council for South Texas Economic Progress (COSTEP).
 
His audience was a delegation of executives and plant managers from across Mexico who are part of Index, the maquiladora trade association. 
 
Schwebel said he is often asked why a banker travels to Washington, D.C., Ottawa, and Mexico City for discussions about trade. His answer: trade is part of the lives of everyone living on the border. 
 
COSTEP billed the event as a Fam Tour. Fam stands for familiarization. Schwebel spoke at Casa de Palmas in McAllen.
