WESLACO, Texas - A new ten-year draft budget being considered by the Texas Transportation Commission is good news for the Rio Grande Valley.
This is the opinion of Andrew Canon, executive director of the Rio Grande Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization.
Canon said the budget includes $1.2 billion for the Texas Department of Transportation’s Pharr district, which includes the Valley. This would be over a ten year period. Canon said he is confident the draft budget will be fully adopted by TTC.
Canon, pictured above, spoke about the new transportation budget in a wide-ranging conversation on Zoom with Rio Grande Guardian editor Steve Taylor. Other topics discussed included a second causeway for South Padre Island, the impact of USMCA, and expansion of the Pharr Interchange.
Canon said the general public can view the new transportation budget on the TxDOT website and give their views during the public comment period.
