EDINBURG, Texas - Dr. Gary Joe Mounce, a professor emeritus at UT-Rio Grande Valley, has been coaxed out of retirement to teach politics again.
As part of the course work, students have to study one textbook and one other book. For the “other” book, Mounce has chosen the book he published earlier this year, “A Writing Fool - Tales From Mexico and the Rio Grande Valley.
A large chunk of the book is given over to the guest columns Mounce penned for the Rio Grande Guardian over the years. But there are new essays, also.
The Guardian visited UTRGV’s Edinburg campus to find out how Mounce is doing and to interview students about the course and his book.
