HARLINGEN, Texas - Joel Gonzalez, president and owner of ConsultingPoint, Inc., has explained why he is moving his manufacturing company from Brownsville to Harlingen, with a $2.1 million investment.
Basically, the company needed more space in which to operate due to a big order from Germany. Founded in 2004, the company manufactures industrial motors, generators, and components serving the wind power, hydro and turbo generation, mining, locomotive, and nuclear submarine propulsion systems.
“We needed a big building with height and 30-ton cranes. So we ordered two 30-ton cranes, one 5-ton crane… there's a lot of manufacturing to come to Harlingen,” Gonzalez said, in a short presentation to the South Texas Manufacturers Association. The event was held at the Harlingen Convention Center.
“ConsultingPoint (CPI) is currently in the process of relocating,” Gonzalez told STMA. “We should be relocating by the end of November. Best time frame, manufacturing will start probably at the end of December or January, for sure.”
Gonzalez thanked two Harlingen Economic Development Corporation leaders for their help with the move. Namely, CEO Orlando Campos and COO Beverly Ticer Loftus. Campos was in the audience for Gonzalez’s presentation.
In a press release, Campos said CPI’s relocation was driven by the need to transition from their prior facility. He said that after an initial search in Brownsville without success, the company expanded its search and found a space near the Harlingen Industrial Park. The available site offered the size and infrastructure for their operational needs, while supporting the next phase of their development.
“We’re proud that Harlingen had everything that ConsultingPoint was looking for, and we’re excited to welcome them here,” Campos said. “This expansion is a great example of how strategic site readiness, regional collaboration, and a low cost of doing business can help companies grow without having to look far from home.”
Campos said CPI’s new facility is located at 5221 East Harrison Avenue in Harlingen and includes 54,804 square feet of manufacturing space. He said it will be remodeled to suit their specialized operations within a total footprint of 60,000 square feet. New construction will add administrative offices and a dedicated training facility to support employee development and onboarding.
“The project is expected to create 67 new jobs over the next 3 to 5 years, while retaining 80 existing positions that will transition with the company. HEDC has worked closely with CPI to support a smooth transition and lay the groundwork for long-term success,” the HEDC press release states.
“We’re excited about this next chapter for our company,” Gonzalez said, in the same press release. “The decision to relocate was not made lightly. We’re grateful for our previous home in Brownsville and the support we received over the years, but the space we found here in Harlingen fit exactly what we needed to keep growing. We’re looking forward to becoming part of the community.”
In his presentation to STMA, Gonzalez said he wants to work closely with Texas State Technical College-Harlingen because his company is a strong supporter of paid internships.
“We’re going to try to get little bit closer to a TSTC to try to partner with them, because we do have a tuition reimbursement for all of our employees, $5,200 a year. And we want (our workers) to take some of those classes at TSTC. So with that said, I just need a lot of prayer so that everything goes well.”
