EDINBURG, Texas - November is National Diabetes Month. According to health surveys, one in ten people in the United States have diabetes. Most have Type 2 Diabetes.
In Texas, one in eight people have diabetes. Most have Type 2 Diabetes. In the Rio Grande Valley, one in three people have diabetes. About half do not know they have diabetes.
To coincide with National Diabetes Month, the Rio Grande Guardian interviewed Dr. Juan Diego Palacios, an Endocrinologist at DHR Health Diabetes and Endocrinology Institute.
Dr. Palacios received his medical degree from the Universidad de Cuenca in Cuenca, Ecuador. He went through residency training in internal medicine at the University of Miami JFK Medical Center, where he was named Chief Medical Resident. He then continued his training with a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Health System, and was named Chief Endocrinology Fellow.
Dr. Palacios told the Guardian that the DHR Health Diabetes and Endocrinology Institute offers comprehensive care, education and innovative treatment options for managing diabetes and endocrine disorders with clinic locations in Edinburg, Weslaco, Rio Grande City, Mission and Brownsville.
“The Institute is dedicated to addressing the diabetes epidemic through cutting edge research and clinical care.
