MCALLEN, Texas - Freedom Bank  held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new branch in south McAllen on Oct. 30.

The branch's new location is 100 S. Expressway 83, McAllen.

The financial institution started out as First State Bank in Freer in 1957. It was later known as Freer State Bank and Brush Country Bank.

CEO Arturo ‘Art’ Ortega explained why the name changed to Freedom Bank in 2019, in an interview with the RGG Business Journal.

“The name Freedom Bank represents so much to all of us and in undertaking that name comes a huge responsibility," Ortega said. "By adopting this name, we aim to grow the bank and put forth an image that will represent our values and our commitment to the communities of Duval and Hidalgo County, eventually encompassing other surrounding counties.”
