Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen Reaches Centennial Milestone

Posted

As Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen celebrates its 100th anniversary, we feel it is appropriate to thank everyone who has played a role in the profound impact generations of Valley Baptist healthcare teams have had on the health and well-being of the communities we all love.

While we've been grateful to celebrate our centennial throughout 2025, we would be remiss if we didn't take this opportunity to in turn thank our community and its leaders for trusting us as the caretakers for generations of families in Harlingen, throughout Rio Grande Valley, and beyond.

In addition to providing award-winning healthcare for more than a century, Valley Baptist-Harlingen is truly a part of our community's rich history, and that is something that we acknowledge with immense pride.

Valley Baptist-Harlingen’s partnership with our Harlingen community began with the founding and opening of Valley Baptist Hospital on January 22, 1925. We moved from our original location on F Street to our current location on Ed Carey Drive and Pease Street in 1956 and officially joined with Valley Baptist-Brownsville to form Valley Baptist Health System in 2004.

While our name has changed a few times over the decades, what hasn't changed is that we've walked hand in hand with the communities we love through more than a century of history, both local and global. Through the Great Depression, World Wars, natural disasters, and even an unprecedented global pandemic, Valley Baptist has been a pillar of our community, and we've been here to tend to its health and well-being through it all. We've been a part of the light-hearted times as well, joining our community for many, many festivities, parades, and countless other celebrations.

Ushering in our next century of healthcare, perhaps it is a perfect time to reaffirm our commitment to the health of our community for the next century and beyond by unveiling a new Valley Baptist Health System hallmark.

The meaning of our system’s refreshed logo is simple, yet profound. At its heart lies a bold, modern cross - a familiar symbol of faith, caring and healing. Framing the cross are four defined corners, each symbolizing one of the four counties that form the foundation of our health system and the Rio Grande Valley that we all love and call home. At the very center of the cross lies a smaller, inner cross, which is a symbol of healthcare itself. It represents the core of our mission: To provide quality and compassionate care.

Encircling the entire design is a perfect circle, a symbol of unity, wholeness, and community. It signifies that our care is not limited by borders and embraces every individual, every family, every neighborhood we serve. You can learn more about our new logo and the details behind its design by visiting https://youtu.be/1NPZ3P_uosU.

While we are eager to embrace our new logo and share it with our community, change will be gradual as we address the scope of the project. There is a transition plan in place, and in the coming weeks and months, you will see our new logo more and more throughout the Valley.

As we reflect on our century of being part of this amazing community, we are nothing short of immensely grateful for the opportunity, and incredibly hopeful about the future we all collectively share.

We've cared for generations of families here, and God willing, we'll care for generations more. Once again, thank you to our communities for the solemn trust they’ve placed in Valley Baptist-Harlingen, and we look forward to continuing to serve you.
