MISSION Texas - State Rep. Sergio Muñoz, D-Mission, opposes the new congressional map drawn by Republican leaders in Austin.
However, he was one of a handful of Democrats in the House that did not flee the state in order to break a quorum. He chose to stay at the Capitol in the hope of negotiating a compromise map.
In an interview with the Rio Grande Guardian, Muñoz says there is an argument that it might be better for his colleagues to get back to the Capitol, let the Republican majority pass the legislation and there would then be more time to fight it in the courts.
In the interview, Muñoz explains how the map makes big changes to the three South Texas congressional districts, which are known as CD 15, 28, and 34.
