MCALLEN, Texas - South Texas College President Ricardo Solis has praised both faculty and students for the college’s success with its nursing programs.
STC’s Associate Degree in Nursing Program leads the state of Texas with a 98.14 percent passing rate on the 2024 National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
Preliminary results place STC ahead of both community colleges and universities statewide, including the University of Texas at Austin (92.38 percent) and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (92.14 percent). With the national NCLEX average at 88 percent in 2023, and the state average at 92 percent, STC’s performance significantly exceeds expectations, Solis said.
“This demonstrates that our students and the quality of our programs are up to par and above, in many instances, other institutions in Texas,” Solis said.
Solis pointed out that STC graduates hundreds of nurses each year. He said this would not be possible without a dedicated faculty. “They are truly making a difference,” Solis said.
Solis said he also wanted thank STC’s clinical partners. They said they give SYC students an “extraordinary opportunity to gain hands-on experience.” He also thanked the City of McAllen and Hidalgo County, which have donated millions of dollars over the years for scholarships to support the success of STC’s future nurses.
