Solis: STC's GED graduates now have a life filled with new goals and a world with many opportunities

MISSION, Texas - South Texas College recently held a graduation ceremony for almost 150 students that earned GED diplomas from the college’s GED program.

The emotional ceremony, complete with hundreds of family members and friends in the audience, was held at Mission Event Center.

Holding a graduation ceremony for GED students is rare. STC wanted to host there because many of these graduates had put off education for family, financial or other personal reasons. But, they crossed a finish line they may never thought they would, and are now on a path toward higher education and career success.

From the stage STC President Ricardo J. Solis paid tribute to the sacrifices the students had made. This is what he said:

“Graduates, today marks the beginning of life filled with new goals and a world with many opportunities for you. We know the journey has not been easy but you have persevered, despite the challenges that life has presented to you. The hardest step in this journey was your decision to return to school and you did it.

“The rest is now a pathway of opportunity for you. You now have the confidence to be bold and seek new opportunities for the betterment of you, the betterment of your family and the betterment of our unique RGV community.”

Solis added: “All of us at STC, the board of trustees, the exceptional faculty and the staff wishes you success in this new chapter of your life that you're about to begin. We are extremely proud of you.”
