BROWNSVILLE, Texas - During an in-depth presentation on Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority’s current workload at a recent South Texas Manufacturer’s Association meeting held at the Brownsville Events Center, CCRMA Executive Director Pete Sepulveda spoke about another FM 509 project from a different segment of the road.

“This is the segment going from Business 77 in San Benito and Harlingen, going north to FM 508, by the Port of Harlingen,” he said. “Today. It’s a two-lane road, but the capacity is there to go to a four-lane road. So, we're working with TxDOT.”

The FM 509 project will widen and reconstruct the existing two-lane rural roadway to an urban four-lane roadway with a center left turn lane and shoulders, within the existing right-of-way. The project length is 6.85 miles.

“TxDOT has a little bit of funding in place, and we're going to partner with the City of Harlingen to develop, do the environmental document to the schematic, and then turn it over to TxDOT so they can fund it,” he said. “But this is, this is a really good project for Harlingen and San Benito.”
