BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS - During an in-depth presentation on Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority’s current workload at a recent South Texas Manufacturer’s Association meeting held at the Brownsville Events Center, CCRMA Executive Director Pete Sepulveda spoke about FM 509.
The project will be approximately 3 miles and will be constructed at a cost of approximately $15.9 million. Efforts are currently being made to incorporate alignments with the Outer Parkway Project.
“FM 509, moving to the industrial area in Harlingen, around the Port of Harlingen,” Sepulveda said. “This would go on FM 509 from FM 508 to FM 1579; small projects about a two-, two-and-a-half-mile extension of FM 509.”
The idea is to take the traffic to the north and then connect to the interstate north of Harlingen, he added.

“We barely started on this project, so we're just doing the environmental document, the schematic. So, this will take a little bit longer,” Sepulveda said.
The project is fully funded with state funds from TxDOT.
