BROWNSVILLE, Texas - During an in-depth presentation on Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority’s current workload at a recent South Texas Manufacturer’s Association meeting held at the Brownsville Events Center, CCRMA Executive Director Pete Sepulveda spoke about Flor de Mayo International Bridge project.

The proposed project in west Brownville will be a passenger vehicle only and pedestrian bridge located 8 River Miles upstream from the existing privately owned Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge and 35.6 river miles downstream from the county-owned Free Trade Bridge at Los Indios.

“Back in May of ’24, we received a presidential permit so we’re going through the NEPA process right now,” Sepulveda said. “We’re developing the environmental document. Once we get that then we’ll begin with preliminary engineering and design of the project.”

Sepulveda said CCRMA would be coordinating a feasibility study with Mexico that will be included in the feasibility study from the US side that has already been completed.

“The presidential permit gives us about five years to begin construction,” he said. "That’s going to be pretty tight because any progress we make on the US side, we kind of like to ensure that Mexico is also progressing, not necessarily at the same level, but pretty close, so that we don't stay, either too far behind, or they don't stay too far behind.”

Sepulveda added that they are working closely with the Mexican Federal Government and the State of Tamaulipas on the project.

The proposed border station will be located within 173 acres of land presently owned by Cameron County. The County plans to coordinate the construction of the international bridge and facilities through CCRMA.
