MCALLEN, Texas - Tomorrow, Sept. 17, is National Voter Registration Day, a day designated to focus attention and efforts on registering new voters across the country in advance of the Nov. 5 general election.
Citizens must register to vote by Oct. 7 in Texas in order to vote in the November election.
Anthony Gutierrez, executive director of Common Cause Texas, encouraged Texas citizens to register and check their registration status. He said eligible Texans can register if they:
“Voting is the cornerstone of our democracy and a chance for us to shape our collective future, Gutierrez said.
“With less than two months until the 2024 General Election, everyone must be able cast their ballot to have a say in our important elections. Our democracy is strongest when we make our voices heard for the future of our local communities, state, and country.”
Gutierrez said all voters, including those who are already registered, should double-check their voter information with their appropriate county office or with the state’s online voter information look-up tool.
In Texas, there are several ways to register, Gutierrez explained, including in-person at the county supervisor of elections office, online through the state of Texas website, in person at public libraries or other government agencies that serve as voter registration agencies, or by mailing a completed and signed voter registration form to the county supervisor of elections office.
