SAN BENITO, Texas - The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) chapter in San Benito, otherwise known as the Juan Rivera, Sr. & Veterans Council (Council 22347), held a Meet the Candidates forum on Monday, Feb. 9.
The candidates that attended and spoke were: David Betancourt, who is running for re-election as Cameron County Treasurer; Sylvia Garza-Perez, who is running for re-election as Cameron County Clerk; Esteban 'Steve' Guerra, who is running for Cameron County Judge; Esmeralda Cantu-Castle and Stephany Bauer, both of whom are running for Texas House District 37; Etienne Rosas, who is running for U.S. Congressional District 34; Thomas Ray Garcia, who is running for the Texas Board of Education, District 2; and Deborah A. Morales, who is running for re-election to San Benito City Council, Place 2.
The moderator was Elias Cantu, Jr., a local LULAC leader.
