EDINBURG, Texas - A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held recently for the La Sienna Apartments project.

The event was hosted by Edinburg Chamber of Commerce.

La Sienna Apartments is the first multifamily community within the La Sienna Master Planned Community that is being developed by Burns Development Company. The 15 acre multifamily site officially opened last year with 288 one, two, and three-bedroom apartment homes. Around 200 of them already have tenants.

The La Sienna Master Planned Community lies to the east of I-69 Central, just north of Monte Cristo in Edinburg.

The forty million dollar investment is the vision of David Salazar and Felipe Martinez of World Development Corporation. They say it is a step forward in fulfilling the housing needs of South Texas.

Salazar, the project developer for La Sienna Apartments, said the apartments offer residents new, modern, and luxurious living options.

“The construction of the development has infused the local economy with an estimated 500 jobs and over 230,000 man hours, contributing to the overall health of the Edinburg economy,” Salazar said.

Salazar said the project has been a collaborative effort between the land developer, Burns Development Company, the contractor, Broaddus Construction, LLC, property management company, HomeSpring Residential Services, and architect Francisco Gonzalez.

“This is also a vision of the City of Edinburg. They envisaged this expansion to the north and now they're seeing the fruits of their labor by recognizing the first multifamily project to be built within the 700-acre La Sienna development,” Salazar told the Rio Grande Guardian International News Service.

Asked if La Sienna Apartments is a state-of-the-art project, Salazar:

“Absolutely. This is state-of-the-art and it was also built within the parameters of the National Green Building Standard. So, this is an energy efficient development and I think it might be one of the few multifamily developments in the Valley that has the National Green Building Standard.”

Asked what his company’s next project would be, Salazar said: “We have interest in another project in Edinburg, but we're going to keep that one under tabs for now.”
