EDINBURG, Texas - Rolando Rubiano, a principal at Green, Rubiano & Associates, is a member of the Texas Board of Professional Engineers.

On Sunday, Sept. 18, Rubiano spoke at an Inaugural Ph.D. Launch Celebration hosted by the UTR-Rio Grande Valley’s College of Engineering and Computer Sciences (CECS)

The event was held to celebrate the 18 students that will work to earn the new Doctor of Philosophy degree program in Materials Science and Engineering. It is the first doctorate administered by CECS.

During his remarks, Rubiano said:

“My my mother at times, I think, would be a little frustrated with all of my brothers and myself. We were raised in northern Mexico and in the Valley.

“And at times my mother, at her wit's end, would look at her mother, my grandmother, and she would simply say, “El burro no anda hasta que este cargado, mija."

“Forgive me because it's going to translate terrible. “The mule doesn’t move until its cart is fully loaded.”

“I have an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas. I have a professional license and I feel my cart is fully loaded.

“For those of you that are expanding your capacity to carry your community on your shoulders by committing to getting a Ph.D., not only in engineering but here at UTRGV, my thanks to you.

“Thank you, guys, for that commitment, for that trust in UTRGV, for that trust in your community, and for that absolute knowledge that you will bring to bear.

“The 18 of you, by the time you get your PhD, the number of masters and undergraduate students you will touch, you will launch, you will affect positively, will be in the hundreds. Thank you.

“Thank you so much for your commitment to UTRGV, for your consideration of getting your education in engineering and computer science, material science, and most importantly for what you can do for your community.

“Thank you again.”
