Prairie View A&M's BID Academy to be held at Brownsville's eBridge Center

BROWNSVILLE, Texas - Megan Rodriguez, a community and economic development agent for Prairie View A&M University Extension Service in Willacy and Cameron County, has announced details of this year’s BID Academy.

The Business In Development (BID) Academy helps small businesses access state government contracts. It is free to join.

“The BID Academy is one of our signature programs. Last year we hosted the program in Mercedes. This year, we will be hosting it with our partners, the  Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC), at the eBridge Center in downtown Brownsville,” Rodriguez said.

“We will be explaining how small businesses can get HUB (historically under utilized) certified. We will also go through the concepts for accessing alternative sources of capital, supplier diversity in subcontracting plans and how to win proposals and bid writing for government contracts.”

The academy starts February 6, with classes held twice a week, Rodriguez explained.

“The program will run all the way until the end of the month, and then it will close out with a graduation ceremony for all the participants that complete the program.”

Rodriguez thanked former BCIC board member Michael Limas for helping secure the use of the eBridge Center. Limas participated in the BID Academy last year.
