The Board of Commissioners of Brownsville Navigation District of Cameron County, Texas, honored outgoing Commissioner John Wood at their most recent meeting.
Here is the proclamation:
Whereas John Wood is a longtime civic and community leader, whose dedication to the public service has significantly contributed to the growth and development of Brownsville Navigation District, Cameron County, the Brownsville community, and surrounding region, and
Whereas as a licensed real estate broker, entrepreneur, and former City of Brownsville and Cameron County Commissioner, Mr. Wood brought wealth of knowledge, experience, and thoughtful leadership that greatly benefited the Brownsville Navigation District and constituents it serves, and
Whereas Mr. Wood was elected to the Brownsville Navigation District Board of Commissioners in May of 2014 and throughout his tenure has made lasting impact, including serving as a chairman from 2016 to 2018, playing a pivotal leadership role in advancing the Brazos Harbor Channel Improvement Project, an initiative created to enhance the port's competitiveness, accommodating larger vessels, and driving long-term economic growth for the region through his service on the policy committee, where he helped guide strategic planning, good governance practices, and key policy decisions that strengthen the district's operation and future direction, and throughout his service as a trustee for the pension plan to the lasting benefit of the district employees and their families, and
Whereas over many years of dedicated public service, Mr. Wood has been instrumental in advancing key initiatives related to international trade, economic development, and quality of life, public health, environmental stewardship and regional collaboration, consistently working to strengthen the well-being and prosperity the communities he has served, and
Whereas throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Wood has been actively involved in numerous nonprofit, civic, and professional organizations, and has served in leadership roles with organizations such as Brownsville Metropolitan Planning Organization, Gold Task Force of US-Mexico Border 2020 Environmental Program, Brownsville Economic Development Council, Brownsville Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Rio Grande Valley Girl Scouts Council, Cameron County Regional Mobile Mobility Authority, the Endowment for Teaching Excellence, amongst others, and
Whereas Mr. Wood leaves an indelible mark on his legacy of the Brownsville Navigation District, Cameron County, and City of Brownsville, and his decades of public service will be remembered with deep appreciation, and
Now, therefore, be it Proclaimed that the Board of Navigation Canal Commissioners of Brownsville Navigation District of Cameron County, Texas, recognizes John Wood for his outstanding contributions to the advancement of our community, and extend our heartfelt gratitude for his exemplary service, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the Brownsville Navigation District,
