MCALLEN, Texas - David Ortiz is the South Texas regional director for the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center, and operates out of UT-Rio Grande Valley.

He recently gave a presentation to the South Texas Manufacturers Association during a luncheon the group held at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton in McAllen.

Ortiz spoke about TMAC's work. He said the mission of the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center is to increase the global competitiveness of the Texas economy by growing the extended manufacturing enterprise.

“TMAC delivers hands-on business management, technology and operations solutions to a wide range of businesses, including manufacturing, distribution, logistics, construction, health care and government. We have a wide array of services that accelerate profitable growth by developing and improving profits, products, processes, technologies and people. Focus areas include Strategic Management, Technology and Operations,” Ortiz said.

In his presentation, Ortiz pointed out that TMAC is part of the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) National Network, a public-private partnership that aims to deliver comprehensive, proven solutions by helping small and medium-sized manufacturers grow, make operational improvements, and reduce risk. There are seven TMAC centers. They are:

The North Texas-Metroplex, housed at UT-Arlington: Paso Del Norte, housed at UT-El Paso: South Central, housed at the Southwest Research Institute; Gulf Coast, housed at the University of Houston: West Texas, housed at Texas Tech University; Southeast, housed at the Lamar Institute of Technology; and South Texas, housed at UTRGV.
