Narciso Garcia: Why Vanguard Academy focuses on the fine arts

Posted

EDINBURG, Texas - When it was set up 22 years ago, fine arts was at the forefront of educational opportunities on offer at Vanguard Academy.

Today, its superintendent, Dr. Narciso Garcia, says the opportunities are greater than ever. He said fine arts are embedded into the curriculum at elementary, middle and high school level.

“Offering children, young people, the opportunity to participate in dance, to participate in in teacher arts, in piano and orchestra and choir… 22 years later I would like to report that our fine arts programs are doing better and greater than ever before,” Garcia said.

Garcia has worked in several other school systems in the past.

“I really don’t believe that other school systems implement fine arts into elementary, middle and high school like Vanguard does,” Garcia said.

“The fine arts target the left side and the right side of the brain. One side being the creative side of the brain, the other being the logic. Fine arts targets both sides.”

Here is a video interview with Dr. Garcia about the fine arts programs on offer at Vanguard Academy:
