PHARR, Texas - Victor Perez, the president of Pharr Economic Development Corporation, says another light manufacturing company is coming to south Pharr.

It will mean another 300 to 400 jobs.

“So right now, we just signed an agreement with a company coming in with light manufacturing. The company plans to employ anywhere from 300 to 400 people. Everything is agreed. We just need our legal team to do its due diligence,” Perez told the RGG Business Journal.

“Once that is done we're going to be able to announce the company. It is the kind of manufacturing company that we want to attract. It’s very important to us, because this is what we strive for, this is what we lack here in the region.”

Perez said more announcements will be made, on the industrial side.

“There is more to come. We are already talking to two other (manufacturing) companies. They're going to do the same thing in light manufacturing, maybe semiconductors, some chips, and so they're high paying jobs. Those are the ones that we want.”

It was put to Perez that this is great news, following on from the recent big announcement by CIL Group. CIL Fresh and Robinson Fresh just opened a huge cold storage facility, also in south Pharr.

“Yes, we are very proud of that - a 160,000 square-foot warehouse with CIL Fresh and CJ Robinson. They are a nationwide and worldwide company. They handle produce from all over the world. It is exciting to see all these companies coming in and wanting to invest in Pharr and the region. It just keeps going,” Perez said.

Asked what he puts it down to, Perez said leadership.

“It’s all because of the leadership we have with Mayor Hernandez, the city commission, the city staff, the Pharr EDC board and staff. We also have a new bridge coming, the second span. We're being recognized. People are hearing about the City of Pharr and what we're doing here.”

In the interview, Perez also spoke about new retail development coming to north Pharr, and in particular the Nolana and Sugar Road intersection.
