“We are delighted the Texas Water Foundation will be moderating our panel.,” said Paco Sanchez, president and CEO of the RGV Partnership.

“TWF is one of the leaders when it comes to water policy across the state. We wanted to make sure we brought them in so that our public has great information.”

Sanchez gave an interview to the Rio Grande Guardian about the work of Texas Water Foundation and his group’s upcoming forum while attending TWF’s “Rio Grande Valley Funding Forum and Workshop: Building Partnerships for Water Planning” event. It was held at Cameron County Courthouse on April 9.

“This forum has been very technical, designed to help those that are applying for funding. There was great information. Our conversation, next Wednesday,  will be more about informing the public to make sure that they know the issues that are at hand,” Sanchez said.

McDonald previously worked for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts on endangered species issues coordinating state funded research with stakeholder needs.

Prior to that he was a newspaper reporter focusing on environment and water issues especially the Rio Grande and Edwards Aquifer. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Journalism from Western Washington University.

The panel McDonald will be moderating will consist of Hidalgo County Commissioner David Fuentes, Brian Jones, from the Texas Farm Bureau, Brownsville City Commissioner Bryan Martinez, and Brownsville Public Utilities Board CEO Marilyn D. Gilbert.

“We'll be talking about new sources of water, the current investments that we have ongoing here in the Valley, and what we can do to really multiply the impact that we already have and make sure that in the future we have water for our communities, for industry and for agriculture as well,” Sanchez said.
