MCALLEN, Texas - Community group Futuro RGV is hosting online candidate forums across the Rio Grande Valley to help voters learn more about the numerous primary season races.
Thus far, the group has hosted forums with some of the candidates running for U.S. Congressional Districts 15 and 34. They will host forums with the remainder later this month.
Future has also hosted a forum with the candidates running for Hidalgo County Judge. At least eight other races will be covered.
The forums can be viewed live on Futuro’s Facebook page. The forums then stay on Facebook for viewing at a later date.
“Futuro RGV is receiving a great deal of positive comments in appreciation for making the candidates views and positions available to our voters without going out,” said Futuro RGV President Nedra Kinerk.
“We are very surprised and pleased at the number of viewers who are accessing our Facebook page to learn about the candidates.”
Hosting the forums online is proving a success, Kinerk said.
“We believe we are reaching more voters than our traditional candidate forums at the library or convention center did. This is the 21st Century and FRGV is learning new ways of providing traditional services to our communities.”
Kinerk thanked VENTURE X and AIM Media for providing technical and staff expertise. She said the forums will be available to watch throughout the primary season on both Futuro’s Facebook and website platforms.
