EDINBURG – The Hidalgo County Court Reporters Association will be showcasing its celebration of the 2026 Court Reporting & Captioning Week, which occurs Feb. 7-14.
Court reporters and captioners rely on the latest in technology to use stenographic machines to capture the spoken word and translate it into written text in real-time. These professionals work both in and out of the courtroom recording legal cases and depositions, providing live captioning of events, and assisting members of the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities with gaining access to information, entertainment, educational opportunities, and more.
“All of the official court reporters in the Hidalgo County Courts play an integral role in the administration of justice,” said Judge Rose Guerra Reyna, Presiding Judge for Hidalgo County District Courts.
“They provide accurate records and transcripts of courtroom proceedings that judges and appellate courts rely on. Attorneys also depend on those transcripts to effectively represent their clients. On behalf of all the judges of courts of record in Hidalgo County, we thank our official court reporters for their professionalism and dedication,” she added.
If you’re looking for a career that is on the cutting edge of technology, offers the opportunity to work at home or abroad, like to write, enjoy helping others, and are fast with your fingers, then the fields of court reporting and captioning are careers you can explore at discoversteno.org.
