Dear Friends of the Port,
Today, we are witnessing a remarkable transformation in the economic landscape of the state of Texas and we're honored that the Port of Brownsville is at the center of such developments.
With several multi-billion-dollar projects currently under way and several more on the horizon, there has never been a better time to do business at the port that works.
Over the last year, activity at the port has fortified our future. For the first time in our 88-year history operating revenues surpassed the $40 million threshold, reaching over $41 million in FY 2023. As various projects and private investments move forward, the port continues to thrive and diversify its business portfolio.
The Brazos Island Harbor Channel Improvement Project to deepen the ship channel from 42 feet to 52 feet is underway, providing significant navigational safety improvements for commercial shipping in South Texas.
The port's 118-acre business park continues to attract interest and investments from companies seeking to leverage the port's logistical network and strategic location for a global advantage. This endeavor, led by the Brownsville Navigation District (BND) Board of Commissioners, exemplifies our commitment to infrastructure investments that strengthen the port and deliver results.
For the 12th consecutive year, the BND has received the highest recognition for governmental accounting and financial reporting for its 2022 annual comprehensive financial report. We continue protecting the interest of our constituents, making prudent decisions while displaying the highest financial standards in accuracy, clarity and transparency.
We are proud to carry on this legacy of fiscal responsibility as we continue to lead the maritime industry in the Rio Grande Valley. With a track record like this, the Port of Brownsville is set to continue bringing sustained prosperity to the region.
Esteban, Guerra
Chairman
Brownsville Navigation District
