EDINBURG, Texas - Region One Education Service Center, in collaboration with Donna, Hidalgo, Roma and Valley View Independent School Districts, has been awarded $1.1 million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The funds will be used to help strengthen college readiness programs over the next four years.
Region One Executive Director Dr. Daniel P. King said the funding will expand early college and dual credit opportunities, improve advising services and enhance data tracking to increase college enrollment rates.
King said that in partnership with South Texas College, this work will align high school and college courses, remove testing barriers and expand structured dual credit pathways. He said the initiative aims to help students enroll in early college coursework, earn at least 15 college credits before graduation and successfully transition to post-secondary education.
“This funding strengthens the support we already provide to school systems, allowing us to expand early college and dual credit opportunities in a way that directly impacts students’ futures,” King said.
“Our goal has always been to open doors for students, giving them access to the education and experiences they need for high-wage, in-demand careers. With this funding, we will equip more students with the tools to succeed in college.”
