HARLINGEN, Texas - Former state Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr., of Brownsville says he is still a Democrat, even though he has started endorsing Republicans.
In this election cycle, Lucio has announced his support for U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, a Republican, and Adam Hinojosa, who is running for the GOP in Senate District 27, Lucio’s former seat.
Lucio introduced Cruz at a campaign rally at Don Gollito Restaurant in Harlingen. Hinojosa was also at the event. The Rio Grande Guardian secured a video interview with the former senator at the conclusion of the rally.
“I am a pro-life Democrat,” Lucio said.
Lucio said that while he has not endorsed Republican Mayra Flores in her bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez in Congressional District 34, he does like a lot of her policy positions.
