“We’re excited to continue the momentum of the Blue Zones Ignite™ initiative in the Rio Grande Valley. As local leaders, residents, and partners begin shaping a shared vision for well‑being in Edinburg, McAllen, Mission, and Pharr, your voice is a vital part of the journey,” MHM said.

The project is being spearheaded by Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc., in conjunction with Blue Zones. A kickoff event was held a couple of weeks ago at McAllen First United Methodist Church.

“Methodist Healthcare Ministries is bringing together civic and community leaders to work with Blue Zones to make healthy choices easier and more accessible for all who live in and visit Rio Grande Valley. Through community well-being enhancements, we are working to help the region’s citizens thrive and reach their full potential for health and for life,” MHM stated.

“Blue Zones is the proven innovator for improving the well-being of large populations, with remarkable success in cities, businesses, and states across America.”

MHM says the “Community Keynote Conversations” will dive deeper into the research and framework behind the Blue Zones approach.

“Be sure to join us for shared conversation and food along with a presentation that will showcase the evidence-based practices that have helped communities across the country and around the world live longer, healthier, and more connected lives.”

MHM says the sessions are an opportunity to learn, collaborate, and contribute.

“After the presentation, attendees will be invited to share their lived experiences, ask questions, and offer insight into what makes their community thrive—and where new opportunities might exist.”

Valley residents are encouraged to RSVP for the sessions. “Your perspective will help inform future priorities around health, safety, connection, and quality of life,” the group states.
