SAN JUAN, Texas - Dr. Alejandro Elias, superintendent of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD, recently sat down for a podcast with the Rio Grande Guardian.

The topic was: “College Before High School Graduation: How PSJA ISD Redefined What’s Possible for Public School Students.”

Elias pointed out that there were more than 180 Early College graduates in December, 2025. He also explained why PSJA is a nationally recognized Early College High School model.

He noted that students earning associate degrees and certifications can do so tuition-free. And he spoke about the impact PSJA has on first-generation students and workforce readiness, and how PSJA scaled the early college model districtwide and sustained it.
