MCALLEN, Texas - Civil Rights icon James C. Harrington is to make a personal appearance at the historic Cine El Rey Theatre in McAllen to recount his lifelong work for social justice.
The founder of the Texas Civil Rights Project will give a lecture and sign copies of his new autobiography.
The event takes place Sunday, Sept. 14, starting at 4:00 p.m.
“From a Midwest seminary to a United Farm Workers office in the Rio Grande Valley Harrington has fought for the rights of a wide range of Americans, bringing justice to victims of police brutality, injured farmworkers, silenced students, and people with disabilities,” said Bert Guerra, president of the The Historic Cine El Rey Theatre Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization.
“This is sure to be an inspiring event and a chance to meet someone who has made the world we live in a better place.”
Guerra said those interested can reserve a book by emailing the foundation at cineelreytheatre@gmail.com
“Advance copies of the book signed by Harrington will be $20. That is 40 percent off and also bragging rights to say they got it first,” Guerra said.
