Citizens Security Committees report a decrease in crime in Tamaulipas

CIUDAD VICTORIA, Tamaulipas - A recent report from the Network of Citizens Security Committees in Tamaulipas confirm that crime in the main cities of Tamaulipas is on the decline.

At the same time, the research shows that the confidence of the people in Tamaulipas in the justice and law-enforcement system is above the national average.

The purpose of the analysis was to look at the main crimes in the cities of Tamaulipas in 2023 and compare it to the two previous years.

The research found that Tamaulipas has a rate of 855.65 crimes per 100,000 citizens, below the national average of 1,297.41.

The document mentions that in the southern area, Tampico, Madero and Altamira, the main crimes were property damage, theft and domestic violence, and, compared to 2022, is showing downward trend. Property damage dropped from 1,164 to 888. Robberies dropped from 1,671 to 1,181. And domestic violence dropped from 1,737 in 2022 to 1,582.

In Ciudad Victoria, property damage from 623 crimes in 2022 dropped to 515 this year; domestic violence was reduced from 1,353 to 1,262 and in robbery from 1,868 to 1,811.

In Reynosa, the main crimes were damage to property, from 820 offenses to 712; domestic violence from 1,976 to 1,569; and theft from 2,816 to 2,266, which confirms that there is a downward trend.

In Matamoros, the main crimes were injuries, which dropped from 372 to 369; theft, which dropped from 716 to 662; and domestic violence, which dropped from 1,084 to 827. In all three crimes a downward trend persists. The same downward trend is apparent Nuevo Laredo, where the main crimes were property damage, robbery and domestic violence.

The Network of Citizens Security Committees in Tamaulipas explained that the trust citizens have in authorities is above the national average for all institutions.

According to the National Urban Public Safety Survey, for the third quarter of 2023, 87.3% of the citizens trust the Navy; 83.9% trust the Mexican Army and 76.9% trust the National Guard.

The main achievements of the six Networks of Citizens Security Committees in Tamaulipas over the last 12 months are: the integration of the judiciary into the work of the committees, the promotion of complaints, improved perception of insecurity as well as crime incidence, digital reporting and early warning.
