MCALLEN, Texas - Rick Carrera, economic development director for COSTEP, gave a presentation recently on the assets the Rio South Texas region possesses.
COSTEP stands for the Council of South Texas Economic Progress. The Rio South Texas region includes the Rio Grande Valley, Laredo, and the major cities along the border in Tamaulipas. The event was held at the Embassy Suites in McAllen.
Carrera's powerpoint presentation took 22 minutes. He spoke about assets such as utilities, education, workforce, transportation, connectivity, industrial parks, and manufacturing.
Carrera said there are 200 manufacturing companies in the region connected to the auto industry. The electronic/electric industry has 93 manufacturing companies in the region. The aerospace industry has nine manufacturing companies, and the medical industry has 13 manufacturing companies.
In the audience were economic development leaders, staff from the consulate offices in Tamaulipas and Nuevo León, and International partners.
