EDINBURG, Texas - The two Congressional District 15 candidates that ran in the 2022 general election say they are running again in 2024.
They are U.S. Rep. Monica De La Cruz, a Republican from McAllen, and Michelle Vallejo, a Democrat from Alton.
Both are small business owners.
Here are the comments they made when announcing they were running:
“It has been a privilege to serve as the Valley’s voice in the People’s House. Since my first day in office, I have worked hard to be a strong, responsible, and effective advocate for South Texas in Washington — and my work has just begun,” De La Cruz said.
“South Texans, including many Independents and even some Democrats, support me because we share the same values and they know my heart is in the right place. From fighting for local small businesses and law enforcement to protecting our abuelitos’ benefits and combating fentanyl, I have brought South Texas’ priorities to the forefront of the nation’s capital. God willing, and with the support of our community, I will continue delivering for nuestras familias.”
“I am launching our campaign to flip Texas’s 15th congressional district because the Rio Grande Valley needs a fighter in Congress who will put the needs of our community first. In her short time in Congress, Monica De La Cruz has sided with her party on every issue, even when it hurts South Texas families. She’s voted to jeopardize Social Security and Medicare for our abuelitos, slash funding for veterans’ health care and take away millions from our schools. We deserve better,” Vallejo said.
“My family has lived our Sueño Americano, and I want to make sure the next generation of South Texans has the same opportunity to lift themselves up too.”
