PHARR, Texas - Luis Bazan, director of the Pharr International Bridge, says Pharr is a full supporter of and participant in TxDOT’s Border Transportation Master Plan.

Bazan said the plan, which is currently being updated, is important because it brings in the views of the private sector.

“At the end of the day, one of the one of the things we're doing through this plan is we're bringing in the end user. We're bringing in private industry. These are the folks that we need to be listening to more, right? Because they understand what makes them move. They understand what keeps them up at night. If we're not listening to them, we're not planning adequately for the future,” Bazan told the RGG Business Journal.

Sergio Vasquez, border program manager for the international trade and border planning team at TxDOT, gave a detailed update on the Border Transportation Master Plan, when speaking at the Texas Freight Advisory Committee meeting recently. The meeting was held at the McAllen Convention Center.

Bazan could not attend the meeting but threw his support behind the plan.

“Every city has plans, every city has projects, but it doesn't make sense for the state if you have a whole bunch of projects you're throwing at the wall, and some of them just are not going to pan out, by the time it's all said and done. Working collectively… all the regions, all the bridges, all the ports are coming finally together and ensuring that this plan sets the standards for future trade.”
