Abbott reappoints Meade to Texas Transportation Commission

AUSTIN, Texas - Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Rio Grande Valley native Alejandro G. “Alex” Meade, III, to the Texas Transportation Commission.

His appointment will run through February 1, 2031. 

Abbott has also reappointed Robert C. “Robie” Vaughn for the same time period.

“I am deeply honored to be reappointed to the Texas Transportation Commission by Governor Greg Abbott,” Meade said, in a posting on social media. “Serving in this capacity is a privilege, and I remain committed to working alongside my fellow commissioners to advance a safe, efficient, and forward-thinking transportation system for all Texans.”

Meade continued: “Our state’s infrastructure is the backbone of economic growth and mobility, and I look forward to continuing our efforts to enhance connectivity, drive innovation, and support the needs of our communities. I am grateful for the continued trust placed in me and excited for the work ahead.”

Meade added: “Next step, Senate confirmation.”

The TTC governs the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and is responsible for policymaking regarding the state’s highway system, developing a statewide transportation plan, assisting the development of public transportation, and adopting rules for TxDOT’s operation.

The reappointments of Meade and Vaughn are subject to Senate confirmation.

Alejandro G. “Alex” Meade, III of Mission is executive vice president of Texas Regional Bank. Previously, he served as the city manager for the City of Pharr and prior to that he served as the CEO of the Mission Economic Development Corporation.
