BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Brownsville attorney and Justice of the Peace Jonathan Gracia is running for the open Texas House District 38 seat.

The seat is open because state Rep. Eddie Lucio, III, has announced he is retiring.

The seat was reconfigured by the Texas Legislature during the redistricting process and now is compacted into Brownsville.

“I was born, raised, and reside in Brownsville. My experience as a public servant over the last 20 years allows me to humbly ask for your vote,” said Gracia, a Democrat.

“My parents instilled upon me the value of hard work, perseverance, and family values. Those lessons led to my success as a husband, father, son, and business owner. My professional experience enabled me to work for government agencies at the city, county, and national level for our community.”

Gracia is proud of the work his office did during the coronavirus pandemic. Beginning in September 2020, Gracia and his team served over 3,000 meals in Brownsville.

“During the last two years we fought together against a pandemic that brought unprecedented changes,” he said. “I made sure to stand with you and your families when needed it most.”

Gracia also pointed out that as JP, he has donated over $80,000 of his salary to non-profit organizations, scholarships and to veterans in Brownsville.

“I humbly ask you to vote your conscience, and elect a public servant, not a politician for State Representative District 38 – Brownsville,” Gracia said.

In the attached podcast, Gracia explains his upbringing and why he is running for HD 38. It is the first of a two-part series on Gracia.
