HARLINGEN, Texas – During her first State of the City Address, Harlingen Mayor Norma Sepulveda struck an optimistic note and revealed some never before released information about new businesses coming to town.
In her speech, Sepulveda stressed a distinct theme: a community-centered City.
“Today I stand before you with an optimistic vision for the future of our great city. It is my distinct honor to share with you not only how we are working diligently to transform our city, but also how each and every one of you play a critical and significant role in this endeavor to transform Harlingen into a community-centered city,” Sepulveda said.
“In recent years, Harlingen may have seen its share of challenges and moments of stagnation. However, we have turned the page and we are on the cusp of an exciting and promising new chapter. One in which our city is emerging as a shining example of a community-centered city… we unite as one Harlingen for all.”
This is the first year the City of Harlingen has organized its own State of the City address, held in the evening at the Harlingen Convention Center, using no taxpayer funds while soliciting private support. Individual tickets were available for 25 dollars each. About 800 persons were in the audience.
